Jodie & Nicole's Wedding, 22nd December 2018

We love a big, seasonal wedding at The Arlington, and they didn’t come bigger or more seasonal than Jodie and Nicole’s wedding on 22nd December 2018. Jodie and Nicole held their engagement party with us in March 2017 wanted the venue for their wedding as well!

As the big day was the last Saturday before Christmas, the brides chose quite a traditional wintery, Christmassy theme, mixing stunning white and blue sparkling decorations with some natural features including pine cones and a stunning Christmas tree. The styling was by Scarlett Heart Weddings & Events, who did an absolutely fabulous job, while the gorgeous flowers were by Courts of Rayleigh. A big thank you to Yvette and the Events team for putting the whole day together as well!

The whole day was a busy one for our staff, especially as we had just hosted several weeks of Christmas parties and were holding Christmas Day Lunch a couple of days later! Everything went smoothly and Jodie and Nicole were both beautiful brides - it was a really emotional and wonderful day that we loved being a part of. All these wonderful photographs were taken by Boutique Wedding Films. Have a browse!

Jodie and Nicole’s wedding was so fabulous it was featured in G Wedding Directory in March 2019!

Why Hold Your Wedding in Southend-on-Sea?

Southend-on-Sea is a seaside town nestled on the Thames Estaury in south Essex. The borough of Southend incorporates quite a large group of towns and villages, including Westcliff-on-Sea, Prittlewell, Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness. Southend is known both as a quaint seaside town and as a commuter town - so why hold your wedding here?

Excellent Transport to London, Essex and the South East of England

With two train lines that take around an hour to reach the heart of London (the C2C Fenchurch St line and Abelio Greater Anglia Liverpool St line), Southend is brilliantly connected to London and the rest of the South East. Furthermore, we have our own airport: London Southend, which has direct flights to Europe (and to honeymoon destinations including Paris, Venice, Malta and Barcelona) and was the highest-rated London area airport in 2018. Your guests won’t have any excuse not to make your wedding with our brilliant transport links!

Brilliant Accommodation & Restaurants

Southend is peppered with fabulous hotels and eateries, perfect for guests and for pre-and-post wedding dinners. Wonderful restaurants include Aurum, part of 7 Hotel. For traditional fish and chips, you can’t beat Oldham’s of Westcliff, which has been open since 1967. For vegans, there’s The Oak Tree on Leigh Road, while Grumpy’s Diner on Southchurch Road is a must-visit for anyone with a hankering for American milkshakes! For those of you who venture to Southend high street, try the Pipe of Port wine merchant and dining rooms, or Ravens bar and restaurant.

Stunning Views in a Historical Town

Southend is full of jaw-dropping views and natural landscapes, perfect for those beautiful wedding photos you’ve always wanted. Hadleigh Castle, an English Heritage site sat between Benfleet, Leigh and Hadleigh, dates back to 1215 and offers beautiful views of the Estuary. Southend is home to the longest pleasure pier in the world (1.34 miles long) which is a wonderful day out for any visitor.

Southend was originally the ‘south end’ of Prittlewell, a village that’s been populated for at least 10,000 years. In fact, the tomb of a Saxon king, compared to the Egyptian tomb of Tutankhamun, was found in Prittlewell in 2003. So why not visit one of Southend’s museums while you’re here?

Oh, and did we mention we have an opulent Art Deco ballroom snug in the heart of Leigh-on-Sea, perfect for intimate weddings? Give us a call on 01702 711 350 or email info@thearlingtonballroom.co.uk to have a look round…

5 Benefits of Holding a Midweek Wedding

Midweek weddings are becoming increasingly popular due to a rise in couples choosing quieter, cheaper wedding ceremonies and receptions than they have in years gone by. It’s easy to see why - the average cost of a wedding is around £27,000! So why have a midweek wedding?

Keep Your Costs Down

As we said, weddings are expensive - so why not save your cash and put it toward a house, your family or your honeymoon? Midweek weddings are cheaper than midweek weddings as venue hire is so much cheaper during the week. For example, at The Arlington our Friday venue hire is £450, and Saturday is £600 - but midweek is just £350. That’s £250 you could put elsewhere!

Be Selective With Your Guests… Which Keeps Costs Down!

You don’t really want your great aunt’s son-in-law and his children at your wedding, do you? A midweek wedding is the perfect excuse to trim your guest list down to those who really matter - the people you know will make the effort to be there. Oh, and a smaller guest list will mean fewer mouths to feed at the wedding reception, fewer complimentary drinks, a smaller cake and possibly even a smaller venue! So you’ll be saving money as well!

That being said, if you send out your save the dates early enough, your guests will have more than enough time to book a day or two'’s holiday!

Have Your Pick of Suppliers… and Pay a Bit Less for Them!

All good suppliers, from photographers to make up artists to venue stylists, will be booked up every weekend for months in advance. But their Wednesdays or their Thursdays are probably free - and cheaper than the weekends! Why not use the money you saved on your venue hire to get in the very best venue stylist, or to splash out on the dress or cake of your dreams?

Save Your Guests Money

B&B, hotel and often travel costs are cheaper during the week than at the weekend. Your guests might not feel as ‘festive’ during the week as they might on a weekend, but they’ll be grateful for the reduced costs associated with your big day!

Marry On a Special Day

It’s not all about saving money! Did you get engaged on an anniversary, or meet on a special day? With a midweek wedding, you have greater choice of wedding dates, so you can take advantage and get married on a date that really means something to you!
